Referendum Questions

Voters will have the opportunity to vote on four referendum questions on the ballot this election. The questions are non-binding, which means voters can express their preferences, but the outcome won’t result in a change in the law. However, Rockville City Council may consider the results while making new elections laws in the future. On the ballot there will be three choices under each question: Yes, No, and No Opinion.

Lower the voting age in city elections

Voters must be 18 or older to vote in Rockville elections. Should Rockville allow 16 – and 17-year-olds to vote in city elections?

Voting for non-citizens

Only Rockville residents who are U.S. citizens can vote in city elections. Should Rockville allow residents who are not U.S. citizens to vote in city elections?

Set term limits for City Council

There are no term limits for Mayor and City Council members. Should Rockville limit the Mayor and City Council members to three consecutive terms?

Representative Districts

City Council members are elected “at-large” and the entire city votes for all six members. Should some or all of the six council member be elected by representative districts?
