Helen’s, a restaurant on Rockville Pike in North Bethesda, has been closed since Christmas Eve and won’t open again for at least a few weeks.
Helen Wasserman, the caterer who opened the restaurant almost two years ago, said the closure is because of a personal injury. She broke her wrist right before Christmas.
“I broke my wrist and I can’t cook,” she said. She hopes to open the restaurant again in February.
The extended closure is the latest in a series of difficulties faced by the restaurant since before it opened. Wasserman announced her plans in 2014 to open the restaurant in the former Addie’s location, but construction delays, water problems and other difficulties pushed the opening back to the spring of 2016.
Wasserman said she’s struggled to pay back money owed to the landlord for that period before opening and has had difficulty finding a business partner to take over management of the restaurant. She said she plans to reopen and has kept on the restaurant’s staff.
