Construction crews have gotten the go-ahead to break ground on a 20-story apartment complex in downtown Silver Spring’s Ripley District.

The project at 8250 Georgia Ave. will give rise to 338 homes, 15,200 square feet of retail space and three levels of underground parking, according to a press release from construction firm Lendlease. The high-rise, called Solaire 8250 Georgia Avenue, is slated for completion in spring of 2019, the release stated.

The complex will offer everything from studios to two-bedroom apartments, with an average size of 760 square feet. Residents will also have access to a rooftop swimming pool, cyber cafe, private courtyard with grilling areas, fitness center and club room, another news release reported.

Lendlease will be handling construction for the project. The complex is supplanting a group of two-story buildings that have accommodated the Silver Spring National Bank, the Bethel World Outreach Church and the now-shuttered Dale Music store. The planning board in 2003 considered giving the bank building a historic designation but ultimately decided against it.

The project received the notice to proceed on construction from the county, and groundbreaking will happen shortly. It is the fourth Solaire-branded apartment project for the developers, Washington Property Company, according to a news release.

Correction: A previous version of the article included an incorrect name for the complex. It is called Solaire 8250 Georgia Avenue.
