Maki Bar plans to open in November at Shops of Wisconsin
Maki Bar, a traditional Japanese restaurant, is planning to open soon at Douglas Development’s Shops of Wisconsin in Bethesda.
Yi Hsieh, a partner in the new restaurant, said Wednesday the owners hope to open sometime in mid-November in a spot below Trader Joe’s at the Wisconsin Avenue shopping center. She said the restaurant will offer a similar menu to its sister restaurant Maki Maki Sushi at 8023 Wisconsin Ave. One of the partners in Maki Bar is also a partner at Maki Maki, Hsieh said.
However, the plan is to make the restaurant slightly more refined than Maki Maki to appeal to dine-in customers, according to Hsieh. The restaurant received its liquor license Oct. 15 and last week workers could be seen building a bar and working on the kitchen.

Sligo Café in Silver Spring announced on its Facebook page Wednesday it would close for about three weeks starting on Halloween to “undergo some changes.”
“We’re very excited to share this new era, so stay tuned,” the post reads.
General Manager Katie Golden said Wednesday the restaurant is looking to rebrand and change its concept. In August, Golden and new owner Jung-Ah Park took over the restaurant’s operations from David Galinksy, a music industry veteran, who originally opened the 60-seat restaurant in February.
Since then, Golden said they’ve been gathering information about the community and their customers. Now they’re going to use that information to change the concept, which currently has a small comfort food-focused menu.
“I think it’s going to be really great, we’re trying to do something the neighborhood doesn’t have yet,” Golden said. She added that more information about the changes will be released in a week or two.
