Small bites: Fresh Baguette opening Tuesday, new menu at Nest

Plus, Grapeseed re-starts lunch

Here are some quick hits about things happening around town:

Fresh Baguette, the new bakery owned by three Frenchmen (see my blog, August 28) opens Tuesday, October 22 at 6:30 a.m. The website promises an authentic European experience, with breads baked on the premises. The shop will also be offering homemade sandwiches, quiches, salads, croissants, ice cream, marshmallows, raisin buns and other desserts.

Right next door to Fresh Baguette, the popular Nest Café has updated its menu with a couple new appetizers and sandwiches, and an almost all new line-up of entrees. Look for grilled octopus, lamb osso bucco, salmon cakes, vegetable lasagna and more.

It’s been on-again, off-again, but Grapeseed is bringing back lunch, starting Tuesday, October 22. (From Wednesday through Friday next week, all main courses will be half-price.) The restaurant stopped lunch service in January, after serving it for about a year and a half, but chef-owner Jeff Heineman said there seems to be a lot of foot traffic in the area lately. Heineman has also introduced charcuterie items to his dinner menu, including two housemade items (lomo and bresaola), plus he plans to roll out new steak dishes sometime before Thanksgiving, featuring locally-raised beef minus the steakhouse prices.
