The Face of Authentic Connections

Language Arts, 7th Grade with Susan Hearn | Edmund Burke School

In the library and lab, in the gym and theatre, animated conversations between teachers and students are commonplace here. Burke faculty forge close, supportive bonds with students that endure beyond graduation.

With 300 students in Grades 6-12 and more than 50 faculty, no one flies under the radar. Each teacher serves as an advisor for just 5-7 students and has time built into their day to meet outside class – about anything from a problem set in physics to an ambitious project in history to a conversation about friendships.

As a progressive school, Burke places the intellectual, physical and creative lives of students at the center. “Students are well known and valued by teachers,” says Head of School Damian Jones. “Bonds among parents, faculty, staff, administrators and students are meaningful and long-lasting.”
