For over 30 years, with more than 4,000 volunteers, the Senior Connection has provided more than 350,000 free services to over 7,000 county seniors age 60 and older. In addition to its large force of volunteers, the organization is supported by the county government and generous nonprofits.
Volunteers drive people to and from social, religious and medical appointments and go grocery shopping together. If the senior chooses, volunteers shop for them and can help put everything away. Many volunteers develop long-term relationships by coming to a senior’s home for regular visits.
Of course, with the current public health emergency, there are fewer volunteers and many restrictions. Following CDC guidelines, the organization has been adapting by limiting its services to the greatest medical and nutritional needs.
