“What’s unique about Sandy Spring Friends School? It hasn’t been created yet.” This was the copy that appeared in the first SSFS ad in 1960, promoting a school in the process of being built on land donated by Esther Scott, with Founder Brook Moore’s vision firmly rooted in Quaker values, experiential learning, civic engagement, and a balance of mind, body, and spirit.
SSFS’s original vision continues to thrive in this progressive, coed, college preparatory Quaker school serving more than 600 students from preschool (age 3) through 12th grade, with optional boarding programs in the Upper School. SSFS provides a transformative learning community for its broadly diverse student body through the school’s challenging, inquiry-based academic program that encourages collaboration, critical thinking and student leadership. SSFS strives to nurture individual talents and foster caring and productive citizens of the world.
