Montgomery Housing Partnership

Montgomery Housing Partnership is the largest nonprofit developer of affordable rental housing in the county, with more than 1,300 units in Wheaton, Takoma Park, Silver Spring and other communities.

MHP acquires, rehabilitates, builds and manages quality affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families, and provides after-school programs and other community life programs for its residents.

What a donation buys:
• $250 provides supplies for an after-school program at one site or 16 new backpacks for the back-to-school assistance program.
• $1,000 helps cover the cost of two field trips for 30 children to the National Zoo to complete an art project or to Brookside Gardens to participate in a tea ceremony.
• $10,000 covers field trip transportation costs for more than 200 children served through MHP programs, or the stipend for one AmeriCorps staff member to work with the community life programs.

Volunteer opportunities: (SSL)
• One day: Assist with the community fairs, neighborhood cleanups and beautification projects in the spring and summer, holiday toy drives in December or large quarterly mailings in the administrative office.
• Weekly: Volunteer as a mentor to help elementary and middle-school children with their homework and assist teachers with other activities.
