South Moon Under
South Moon Under’s eclectic, fashion-forward apparel keeps young professionals well dressed whether for the weekend, work or cocktail hour. “They’re mostly looking for clothes that they can transition,” says Alexa Schaefer, the 26-year-old assistant manager of the Bethesda location. Schaefer says separates are popular. Pencil skirts, blazers and dark denim can extend the season and do double duty for work and play. And unique brands like Free People help create a look you won’t see on everyone else. There are also lines by DV by Dolce Vita, Michael Stars and Splendid and dresses by Sanctuary, Ella Moss and BB Dakota. Prices vary: A Bailey pencil skirt was on sale for $34; Frye boots were going for $328; Citizens of Humanity jeans, for $198, while a pair of Blank skinnies were just $78. In keeping with the regional chain’s ’60s roots as an Ocean City surf shack, there’s also a year-round collection of swimwear. And the store offers up-to-the-minute shoes by DIBA, Sam Edelman and Chinese Laundry, as well as handbags and accessories.
