Ginger
Even before you set foot inside the store, Ginger’s creative window displays catches your eye. Take the mannequin wearing a newsprint dress to tout a recent book party—one of many chic events owner Gretchen Hitchner, a former Capitol Hill press secretary, holds for customers at the Bethesda Lane boutique. Inside, warm green and orange patterned walls complement the colorful fashions by Tracy Reese, Calypso St. Barth and Yoana Baraschi. Natural light illuminates decorative resin panels, while a mirrored chest displays the glittering jewelry crafted by local designer Suzanne Somersall. Accessories and sweaters sit atop a rustic table. And spacious dressing rooms afford shoppers privacy in the back of the store. Customers also can purchase the shopping-themed artwork by Kensington artist Maggie O’Neill that adorns the walls. Not only is the store pretty, it’s eco-friendly, with bamboo floors and hangers as well as a recycled-glass-and-concrete counter.
