Planetarium at Wood Acres Elementary School
Bethesda
Students at Wood Acres can study the night sky under a 14-foot-high metal dome at what is the only planetarium in a Montgomery County public school.
Since 1982, students have been visiting the planetarium and its classroom about six times a year, from December to June, for lessons given by trained and dedicated parent volunteers—some of whom are astronomers and scientists.
“They come in and rehearse. They’re here at all hours,” Principal Marita Sherburne says.
