For decades, Sidwell Friends has been the school of choice among local and national luminaries. Former President Richard Nixon’s daughters, Julie and Tricia, were students there. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, graduated in 1997. Al Gore III went there. And President Barack Obama’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, currently attend, along with Vice President Joe Biden’s grandchildren.
With strong academics, a Quaker philosophy, plus lots of sports and extracurricular activities, Sidwell provides a well-rounded education to more than 1,100 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade. That’s what prepares them for success at top colleges such as Harvard, parents say.
“We picked the school because of its emphasis on thinking—not teaching to the exam, but teaching students to think,” says Tina Sandri of Silver Spring, whose children are in the 11th and 12th grades.
