Landon School
Landon students are as likely to see their teachers on the playing field as in the classroom. That’s because the private school in Bethesda for boys in grades three through 12 believes that requiring teachers to serve as coaches helps them to be more effective mentors.
“It allows our teacher-coaches to be part of students’ development in the classroom and on the field—and that builds a stronger relationship,” Director of Athletics David Holm says.
With 19 sports—including water polo and rugby—offered each year, there are plenty of opportunities to build relationships with teachers and classmates, as well, Holm says.
Students are required to participate in a fall, winter and spring sport.
That makes them “part of the Landon athletic community for the whole year, which gives them a positive experience and the chance to build friendships,” Holm says.
Annual tuition runs $31,000 to $32,000.
