The Brown kids don’t just play doctor—they play Dr. Kornfeld of The Pediatric Care Center.
Paige Brown’s three children—ages 1, 3 and 5—like going to Dr. Dana Kornfeld’s Bethesda office so much that they sometimes ask to go even when they aren’t sick.
“It really is a care center,” says Brown, who lives in the Bradley Hills neighborhood of Bethesda. “It’s not just a doctor’s office. It’s kind of a person-first, patient-second approach.”
That’s the intent, says Kensington native Paul Weiner, who joined the practice in 1989 after graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completing his pediatrics residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He and Kornfeld—two of four full-time doctors—and the three part-time physicians in the practice “really want to spend time with our patients and get to know them, the family, the parents,” Weiner says.
And with patients as young as Brown’s children, that relationship could last more than 25 years. Teens and young adults have their own waiting area and examining rooms on the top floor of the three-story house off Old Georgetown Road that the practice has occupied since 1990.
“Pediatricians are probably the best people to follow the kids, even up to their mid-20s,” Weiner says. “They come here because they’ve known us for years.”
