Owners Aaron Claxton, Kevin Burkart and Ian Palmiero all have kids, as do many of the stylists at The Shop. That’s why the salon has a bin of coloring books, crayons and toys—as well as Wi-Fi for big kids with digital toys. The evening hours are conducive to working parents, as are the daily deals, such as 10 percent off for teachers and National Institutes of Health, Discovery Communications or military employees, and a $10 discount for referring a family member or friend or for pre-booking appointments. Younger, fidgety kids can even sit on a parent’s lap while getting a cut. Women’s haircuts are $65; cuts for children 12 and under are $45 for girls, $25 for boys; cuts for younger kids are $5 to $15; a single color treatment for women is an additional $65.
