Best Appetizer

Plum Tomato Flatbread

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the best. At Seasons 52, the popular new restaurant that has taken North Bethesda by storm, the ripe plum tomato flatbread is a case in point. It’s one of the chain’s signature flatbread choices, and its most popular.

Fresh and light, the $7.95 appetizer comes on a thin, rectangular Lavosh cracker attractively topped with sliced plum tomatoes, fresh basil, rosemary and parsley, and Parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. Sprayed with roasted garlic oil, it’s baked at 700 degrees for four to five minutes.

The finished starter, sliced into triangles, is not as cumbersome as bruschetta, or as gooey as pizza. With its crisp crust, juicy tomatoes, fresh herbs and judiciously used cheeses, it’s clean-tasting and easy to eat.

And adhering to the chain’s requirement that it serve dishes with fewer than 475 calories, the entire flatbread comes in at 300. You won’t want to share.
