The Role

We are seeking a Marketing Manager to support JLL’s Mid-Atlantic communications and brand activation activities. The Manager, Communications will be a forward-thinking communicator and oversee the creation and implementation of internal and external communication plans and programs encompassing traditional and digital media and publications, proactively seek external speaking engagements and lead executive communication and social media. This person will help to differentiate JLL, promote the brand and tell the story of JLL as the best professional services firm specializing in real estate—the employer of choice in the industry—and raise external awareness of the company and its client work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Content Creation, Distribution and Measurement

  • Works cross-functionally to create monthly, quarterly and annual content and editorial calendars that align with business priorities
  • Informs research calendar by becoming the go-to expert in the market on current trends affecting the business
  • Is current on trends in brand journalism, news gathering and distribution, new media and self-publishing channels
  • Drives creation of content for use by marketing and sales organizations to drive lead generation and conversion
  • Understands and drives content through the right channels to maximize impact
  • Develops and reports on metrics across channels

External Communications

  • Establish and implement a communication program that positions JLL as a leader promoting thought leadership and key initiatives that cross the region
  • Address needs for rapid response activities as well as larger, longer-term communications
  • Develop and advise market leaders on program messaging, priorities, and business narrative
  • Identify creative and innovative ways to convey the JLL story through our executives, key leaders within the business, and in collaboration with clients
  • Identify and develop a bench of spokespersons in key topic areas who can speak on behalf of the JLL brand and help shape and promote thought leadership / external content in those topic areas
  • Incorporate analytics and metrics in planning and evaluating external communications activities, taking a data-driven approach to communications efforts and counsel
  • Guide content development, proactive media relations, conference participation, speaking opportunities, earned media, social media, media events, and securing of awards and recognition
  • Support reactive media relations as needed, including crisis and reputation management
  • Develop deep understanding of commercial real estate industry and JLL’s businesses, capabilities, clients and results
  • Develops innovative PR strategies and tactics across region and in conjunction with the marketing management, research and digital teams to create holistic integrated marketing plans
  • Serves as local representative to national PR team; partners with colleagues in other markets to coordinate campaigns and share best practices

Internal communications responsibilities

  • Lead executive communications programs and initiatives, properly positioning members of leadership, aligning messaging, and coordinating communications and internal touch points
  • Develops strategic plan for internal communications, providing oversight on both mass and targeted employee communications
  • Is current on trends in internal communications, internal brand-building and employee engagement
  • Advances JLL’s diversity and inclusion priorities
  • Streamlines and simplifies current internal communications; offers up best practices

Social media responsibilities

  • Develops and executes both long- and short-term social media plans
  • Possesses broad-based understanding of current and past social networks, platforms and tools
  • Has proven experience in using SMM tools and platforms in both measuring and managing performance
  • Facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing, and encourages participation in social media across JLL teams and offices
  • Manages the training and development of individuals currently leveraging social media

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preference for Journalism, Communications, or Marketing degree
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience required
  • Real estate experience preferable, but not required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated understanding of how communications can be used to position a brand and its leaders to support revenue generation, growth, and recruiting activities
  • Deep, hands-on experience in strategic communications, including messaging and issues/change management
  • Experience building, securing buy-in, and launching new programs
  • Proven ability to work independently and with geographically-dispersed teams
  • Able to design and implement new initiatives
  • Experience working in heavily matrixed environments, leading by influence, and managing change
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships with and advise leadership-level stakeholders, with appropriate level of confidentiality when required
  • Expertise in influencing business strategies and aligning communications with commercial objectives
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, creativity
  • Experience using research and industry insights and best practices to drive strategies and tactics
  • Current on trends in brand journalism, content development/management, social media outreach, executive communications, self-publishing channels, and communications measurement approaches
  • Positive, can do attitude
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
