Bethesda Magazine is looking for a creative, talented and hardworking designer to work with the Art Director to design and produce the magazine. We offer a supportive and dynamic workplace, and the opportunity to take your talent to the next level.


  • 2+ years of professional magazine design and production experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative / self-starter
  • Organized multi-tasker
  • Ability to effectively juggle and prioritize to meet deadlines and manage heavy workload
  • Possess clean typography skills and a keen eye for accuracy
  • An almost obsessive attention to detail
  • Extensive MAC knowledge in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong 4-color production knowledge and ability to prep files for various production processes
  • Experience and aptitude transferring print content into digital media
  • Knowledge of color correction for process printing
  • A bachelor’s degree

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with art director and editors to come up with photo and graphic ideas to illustrate articles
  • Assign and communicate ideas to photographers/illustrators
  • Research and acquire stock images
  • Design department articles and some features
  • Flow text into layouts, link images and fine tune all details of editorial and ad pages
  • Establish and maintain schedules, processes and practices to ensure that all quality standards and deadlines are met
  • Produce advertising profile sections and work with advertising coordinator to make edits per advertiser request
  • Manage the overall magazine production process, which includes:
    • Make color corrections
    • Place ads and troubleshoot any low-res images or other issues
    • Place high-res images, make high-res PDFs
    • Track proofing process and accurately make editors’ changes
    • Work with printer on inline/color concerns
    • Pre-flight pages
    • Upload files to printer through InSite
    • Go on press checks
    • Make PDFs per client requests
