IMPACT Silver Spring

IMPACT Silver Spring organizes people across lines of race, class and culture to create vibrant and empowered communities. One example is the “door knocking” campaign, initiated in 2009, where residents reach out to vulnerable neighbors and connect around common issues such as health care, jobs and housing.

IMPACT has helped connect 3,000 low-income residents from multicultural communities to critical emergency services.

Headquartered: Silver Spring

Serves: county-wide

What a donation buys:
• $250 pays league fees for one team of 15 youths in IMPACT’s Long Branch Athletic Programs, which provide after-school recreational sports and tutoring.
• $1,000 covers the cost of cameras for participants and the creation of a community photo exhibit for residents in marginalized communities to promote positive social change.
• $10,000 covers start-up costs to pilot the Family Asset Building Network, aimed at empowering 80 low-income families to move toward economic stability and become more engaged in the civic life of their community.

Volunteer opportunities: (SSL)
• One day: Volunteer as a door-knocker to meet your neighbors and help connect those in need to emergency services and other community resources.
