2019/2020 Homecoming Season @ Round House Theatre
Sep 18 2019 – Jul 3 2020 all-day

Round House Theatre’s meteoric rise continues in 2019 as we get ready to reopen our dramatically transformed theatre with a full six-play lineup that’s brimming with heart, soul, and a whole lot of humor.

Our “homecoming” launches with the Off-Broadway hit comedy, School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play by Jocelyn Bioh. Next, we’ll spark joy during the holidays with a run of Simon Stephens’ Tony Award-winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. 2020 kicks off with another Tony-winning sensation—the powerful and poignant musical Spring Awakening—followed by last year’s Pulitzer Prize winner, Cost of Living by Martyna Majok, whose award-winning Ironbound made its world premiere at Round House in 2015. We’ll close the season with THE LOVE/HATE REP, a bespoke juxtaposition of two electrifying comedies in rotating repertory—Big Love, Charles Mee’s contemporary take on a rollicking classic, alongside Hatef*ck, a fiery, new romantic comedy that just premiered Off-Broadway!

Cost of Living @ Round House Theatre

After thrilling Round House audiences with the premiere of her Helen Hayes Award-winning Ironbound in 2015, Martyna Majok returns with another prize in tow—the Pulitzer! Two parallel narratives intersect as a wealthy graduate student with cerebral palsy and his newest caretaker build an uneasy trust, while a truck driver struggles to reconnect with his estranged wife, recently left paralyzed by a car crash. Though each is wounded, the four continue to fight for the tantalizing possibility of human connection, even in the face of physical, mental, and emotional defeat. Both humorous and heartbreaking, Cost of Living illustrates the redemptive possibilities of reaching out to others despite the sometimes-devastating costs.

Big Love @ Round House Theatre

Based on one of the world’s oldest known Greek dramas, our first play in the LOVE/HATE REP truly is a tale as old as time. Fifty Greek maidens flee across the sea to Italy and claim refugee status to escape fifty arranged marriages; fifty Grecian men follow in pursuit. In spectacular, theatrical fashion, it all comes to a head at a wedding ceremony that would make even the drunkest uncle run for the seven hills. Full of music and mirth, Charles Mee’s famed adaptation pits independence against expectation, and frames the seemingly never-ending battle of the sexes as both a wild romp and an all-out war.

PART OF THE LOVE/HATE REP: Our final two comedies of the season depict romantic entanglements in all their contradictory glories—love versus hate, agony versus ecstasy, and timeliness versus timelessness.
