Thumbelina @ Imagination Stage

Written and Directed by Natsu Onoda Power
Adapted from the Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale
Best for ages 4+

What happens when a girl no bigger than a thumb finds herself lost in a great big world? She takes control of the story, of course! In this plucky retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, Thumbelina sets off to find her place in a world where she does not seem to “fit,” meeting a bashful toad, a bullying band of maybugs, a helpful field mouse, and many more friends along the way. But is her story written for her? OR can she control her destiny? Inspired by Kamishibai – a form of Japanese street theatre that uses illustrated boards to create the story-this production features live video projections, puppetry, dioramas, and other theatre magic. Thumbelina will dazzle audiences with an eye-catching celebration of individuality and friendship.

OUR STUDENTS ARE CHANGING SCHOOL LUNCH MENUS
And this is the only event where you can see how they do it!

Exhibits open at 10:45 AM
Public Tasting of Student Dishes 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Awards Ceremony 12:15 PM

The Real Food for Kids Culinary Challenge is the only event in the country that gives students a platform to influence and change what is served in their school cafeterias. Throughout the National Capital Region, dishes created by middle and high school students for this event are being served to thousands of their peers.

Every day, school food professionals face an array of federal requirements to put school meals in our cafeterias that meet strict nutritional guidelines while adhering to restrictive per-meal budgets. The Real Food for Kids Culinary Challenge gives students the chance to overcome these challenges to tell us what they’d like to see in their school cafeterias. Their success is changing what’s being served in our schools.

21 teams from 7 school districts in the National Capital Region will participate. It’s a taste sensation you won’t want to miss.

FREE – Registration Required.
