Takoma Park Folk Festival (TPFF) @ Takoma Park Middle School

The TPFF is an annual pause to immerse ourselves in the traditional and trending folk arts and the communities they create.

A fabulous FREE festival filled with magical musical moments, quality crafts, fun, food and community in every corner. Since its inception in 1978, the Takoma Park Folk Festival has been a community affair, organized by volunteers from the Takoma Park area and featuring the best local musicians and artists. Enjoy music and dance on six stages, special activities for kids, a juried craft show, community tables and international food.

Parking on-site for handicap permits. Free Shuttles from Takoma’s Metro and Montgomery College’s East Garage. Please see tpff.org for more info.

47th Annual Black Student & Latino Student Fund Independent School Fair @ Washington Convention Center

The Black Student Fund and Latino Student Fund Independent School Fair is a forum for Washington metropolitan area families to meet with representatives from more than 70 local national independent schools and educational programs. Each year, 3,000 parents and prospective students receive firsthand knowledge about the schools’ programs, communities, admission, and financial aid process. One of the largest in the region, the fair also features workshops on academic achievement, diversity, and other educational and wellness issues. The independent School Fair will be held at the Washington Convention Center on Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 2-5pm.

Bring your favorite stuffed friend and explore the Teddy Bear Clinic at the National Museum of Health and Medicine with activities and crafts designed to highlight the body, physical fitness and healthy habits. Hike & Seek: Scavenger Hunt @ Locust Grove Nature Center

Looking for a little adventure? Follow the clues as you hike around Cabin John Park to solve a new nature-themed puzzle each month. This month we’re hosting an old-fashioned scavenger hunt!

Check-in at the front desk any time between 2 pm and 5 pm for the clues. Then work together with your family to find hidden objects in the park along the trails.

$2 per person. Please register both adults and children over the age of 2. Natural surface trails are not stroller accessible. Severe weather cancels the program.

Register by Friday, September 13 to receive a prize for completing the hunt.

PARKS, PARTY & PLAY – Bethesda Yappy Hour @ Elm Street Park

In partnership with Montgomery Parks, the Bethesda Urban Partnership will host summer and fall events in downtown Bethesda’s parks. Yappy Hour and the “Pop Up Dog Park” will return on Thursday, September 19 from 6pm-8pm in Elm Street Park. The pop-up dog park will consist of a small dog and a large dog enclosure area for well-socialized dogs. Additionally, to complement the evening, Bethesda restaurants will serve food, wine and beer and entertainment will be provided.
