Play 4 the Cure

Bethesda Chevy Chase High School field hockey team's annual game dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer

| Published:

On Thursday, October 25, the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School field hockey team played its annual “Play 4 the Cure” game against Northwest High School, emerging with a 8-1 win.

This was a special night, originally dedicated to raising general awareness about breast cancer and funds for research.

A tragic circumstance, though, changed the focus of this year’s game. A few days before the game, Jane Harkaway, the mother of one current and one former player, died from cancer. She left behind two daughters, Hannah, a 15-year-old sophomore at B-CC, and Danielle, 19, a sophomore at Northeastern University, who was an outstanding field hockey player for the Barons during her four years at B-CC.

The event was officially renamed The Jane Harkaway Play 4 the Cure, in honor and memory of Jane.
