Meeting Their Match

Local couples share the (funny, touching, scary) stories of how they met

Off to a Fast Start

Bethesda’s Denise Trujillo and Gerry Lederer met at the field house during their junior year at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. She was running, and he was training with the track team for field events. Denise was a transfer student, and “Gerry was tall, tan and handsome and the biggest guy on campus. I thought that if we were friends, he would stop staring at me, and also I would overcome some of my shyness. So I introduced myself to him.” The two soon became running buddies. Married for 31 years, they have three children, ages 16, 14 and 11. Denise is an attorney for the federal government, and Gerry is in private practice with Best Best & Krieger.
