Events include trivia night from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Caddies On Cordell at 4922 Cordell Ave. in Bethesda, happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at MoCo Founding Farmers restaurant at 12505 Park Potomac Ave. in Park Potomac, an apple gleaning event from 10 a.m. to noon at Butler’s Orchard at 22222 Davis Mille Rd. in Germantown and a cooking event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Spring United Methodist Church at 33 University Blvd., and a Chopped style cooking competition, No Waste, Big Taste: A Rescued Food Cooking Competition, from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the FRESHFARM market at 890 Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring. The competition will feature competing chefs, including Lenny Robinson of downtown Silver Spring’s Hen Quarter, who will compete to turn ugly produce into culinary masterpieces. The Washington Post Food Section deputy editor Bonnie Benwick will be on hand along with state Sen. Will Smith, Lynn Rose of the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and Jacki Coyle, executive director of Shepherd’s Table.

Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise to open a location in Silver Spring

Nothing Bundt Cakes, a national bakery franchise, plans to open its second Maryland location in Silver Spring in early December, “just in time for the holidays,” owner Katheryn Hoerster said.
The bakery at 9462 Georgia Avenue will sell Bundt cakes in 10 flavors, four sizes and 40 unique designs. It will also offer a “rotating” flavor, based on the season.

The store will also sell unique gifts, cards and decorating items. The Silver Spring bakery is located in the Seminary Place Shopping Center, and the Gaithersburg location is on Darnestown Road.

Matchbox will host a children’s Halloween pizza-making event Saturday

Matchbox restaurant, a wood-burning pizza eatery at 1699 Rockville Pike in Rockville, will host a Halloween-themed kids’ pizza-making class for small chefs at its Rockville Pike location on Saturday. The class is recommended for kids ages 5 to 12 and children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes while they enjoy a hands-on, pizza-making class. Kids will tour the kitchen and pizza oven area, make a personal, customized pizza, wear a chef’s hat and receive crayons and coloring pages. A complimentary round of Mimosas will be offered to parents. Tickets are $30 per child and reservations can be made online.
