Wolff, Silvestre re-elected as Montgomery school board leaders

Both continue in positions for second year

Brenda Wolff and Karla Silvestre on Thursday were re-elected to leadership positions on the Montgomery County Board of Education. Wolff will serve a second year as a president, and Silvestre will serve a second year as vice president.

The Montgomery County Board of Education on Thursday elected Brenda Wolff as its president and Karla Silvestre as its vice president.

Wolff and Silvestre have held their respective roles for the past year. They will serve another one-year term in the leadership positions following Thursday’s vote.

Wolff received six votes in favor of her remaining president, while Rebecca Smondrowski abstained.

Silvestre received five votes, while Smondrowski abstained. Lynne Harris voted for Smondrowski.

Both Wolff and Silvestre were elected to their first four-year terms on the school board in 2018. Silvestre has filed for re-election, and Wolff recently told Bethesda Beat she plans to run again in 2022.

Both are Silver Spring residents.
