The Universities at Shady Grove on Monday announced Anne Khademian will be the school’s next executive director.

In a news release, school officials announced Khademian will take over for Stewart Edelstein, who is retiring. Khademian is a professor at Virginia Tech, where she is the director of the School of Public and International Affairs, according to a news release.

Khademian will also serve as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University System of Maryland.

During her tenure at Virginia Tech, Khademian, has “led the school through a period of significant growth and transformation, including the introduction of new academic degrees and programs; increased student enrollment; new faculty hires; forging of new global partnerships and initiatives; and extended outreach to the local community,” the news release said.

She has written three books and has published several research articles about public management and public policy.

Khademian is a fellow and member of the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Public Administration.

Edelstein, who has been USG’s executive director since 2002, will retain his position until Khademian assumes her role on Oct. 19, according to the news release.

USG is one of three USM regional higher education centers and offers approximately 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine different universities at its campus in Rockville.
