A rising junior at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring was killed in a Prince George’s County shooting Monday night.

The school’s principal, Renay Johnson, released a letter to parents on Wednesday to tell them about the death of Kevin Wilson II, 16, of Plymouth Street in Silver Spring.

“For those of you who knew Kevin, we ask that you remember and celebrate his life,” Johnson wrote. “For those of you who did not know him, we ask that you respect and support his family at this time.”

The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit announced Wednesday evening that officers had obtained arrest warrants and were actively searching for two suspects: 22-year-old Tyrell McArthur of the 2900 block of 23rd Parkway in Temple Hills and 22-year-old Rayshawn Williams of no fixed address. Detectives also believe there is a third suspect yet to be identified.

On Facebook and Twitter this week, friends shared old photos of Wilson, calling him by the nickname “Kevo.”

A fundraising page for funeral expenses called Wilson “a terrific young man with both brains, and true athletic ability.”

The post said he was the only child of Kevin Wilson Sr., who was known in the area as a coach.

Kevin Wilson Jr. was a member of the Maryland Seahawks youth football team and held the title of captain “with pride,” the fundraising page said. Wilson was part of the Seahawks team that won a national championship in 2016.

“Just the leadership that he had, the overall presence that he had, when he spoke people listened,” his former coach Jarvis Thomas told Fox 5 DC. “He commanded the room when he came into the room and he was a leader. Just his overall athleticism—he was pretty special on that football field.”

Johnson said grief counselors would be available at Blair through next week to speak with students and families.

The shooting happened in the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue in an unincorporated part of Hyattsville, Prince George’s County police reported. Officers went to the scene at about 7 p.m. and found Wilson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot, according to authorities. He died a few hours later in a local hospital.
