Montgomery County Public Schools are closed Monday due to inclement weather.
The school system announced the closure at about 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday as snow fell in parts of the county, coating roads and creating slick driving conditions.
This is MCPS’ first weather closure of the school year.
Snow and freezing rain are expected to continue throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures on Monday are expected to reach the mid-30s.
MCPS first announced a two-hour delay at about 5 a.m. but decided to close all schools shortly before 7 a.m. due to “worsening weather conditions and a forecast for freezing rain,” according to an alert sent to community members. All administrative offices remained open.
