Biden appoints Silver Spring brewery owner to Small Business Administration
Julie Verratti, co-founder and chief brand officer of Denizens Brewing Co., has been appointed to the U.S. Small Business Administration.
She will fill be associate administrator of field operations, leading the SBA’s 68 field offices and 10 regional offices. The Office of Field Operations oversees the agency’s products and services.
Before operating a brewery for the last seven years, Verratti was a presidential management fellow and policy advisor for the SBA.
“This is an urgent time to work tirelessly on bold and equitable solutions for the hard-working women and men who operate the millions of small businesses that are the backbone of our economy and communities,” she said Friday in a press release. “I am a passionate and true believer that when government is run well, we can deliver positive impacts for people.”
Verratti was unsuccessfully for state lieutenant governor in 2018 on a ticket with Alec Ross.
She has worked for political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy organizations, and as a staffer for the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
She has also served on the Board of Directors for the Brewers Association since 2018, and on the Board of Directors for the Brewers Association of Maryland since 2019.
Verratti lives in Silver Spring with her wife.
Rockville searching for new deputy city manager
Rockville is searching for a new deputy city manager. Applications for the job close on March 1.
The salary range is $170,000 to $195,000 — depending on qualifications — plus benefits.
Jenny Kimball, who held the position for 16 years, resigned in late September to become deputy county administrator for Kent County in Michigan.
Her last day with Rockville was on Oct. 13. Her salary was $187,542.
Qualifications for the position include:
● a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, finance, human resources or a related field, with a minimum of seven years professional management-level experience
● A Master’s degree in public administration, or a related field, is preferred
● Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the position
The appointee will also be required to live within the corporate limits of the city and have a Maryland driver’s license.
Tim Chestnutt, the director of recreation and parks, is interim deputy city manager until a new appointment is made. Chris Henry, the deputy director of recreation and parks, is serving as interim director of the department.
Hogan submits 154 ‘Green Bag’ appointments to Maryland State Senate
Gov. Larry Hogan submitted 154 “Green Bag” appointments to the Maryland Senate for various boards and commissions on Friday, including 14 Montgomery County nominations.
They are known as “Green Bag” appointments because they are delivered, under Maryland tradition, in a green satchel.
The Senate will decide whether to approve the appointments.
The nominations for Montgomery County include:
