A Baltimore woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempting to steal a woman’s car in Silver Spring, Montgomery County Police announced Friday.

Shaquana Kendricks, 28, was arrested early Wednesday morning after police say she approached the victim, who had parked her car in the 9500 block of Georgia Ave. According to a press release, Kendricks assaulted the victim and then stole her car keys.

According to court documents, the victim managed to enter her car during the assault, lock the doors and call 911. Kendricks then fled the scene. Police responded to the call around 4:45 a.m. and arrested Kendricks after a foot chase.

Court documents state that Kendricks told police after being arrested that she assaulted the woman with the intent to take her vehicle.

Kendricks was charged with one count of attempted carjacking and is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Clarksburg, said Officer Rick Goodale, a police spokesman.

Kendricks is due in Montgomery County District Court on Oct. 10.
