Incidents on outer loop in Bethesda and Silver Spring

A collision involving three vehicles that occurred early Friday on the outer loop of the Beltway in the Bethesda area, along with two additional vehicle incidents, led to traffic back-ups that extended as far as New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, according to the Maryland State Police.

Police reported the three-car collision occurred at about 4:40 a.m. between Georgia and Connecticut avenues, leaving a left lane blocked. No one was injured, police said.

After that incident was cleared by first responders, an overturned vehicle on the outer loop west of Connecticut Ave. was reported at 7:30 a.m. That incident added to the traffic back-up. No injuries were reported.

At 8:30 a.m., a disabled vehicle in the roadway at the Georgia Avenue exit was moved to the right shoulder, according to police.

Traffic remained slow between New Hampshire and Georgia avenues until approximately 9 a.m., State Police Communications Officer John McDonough said. “This is pretty much rush hour being slowed down.”
