Silver Spring Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained in Scooter Collision

County police continue investigation into Rockville incident

A 24-year-old Silver Spring woman has died from injuries she sustained when a car rear-ended the motor scooter on which she was riding in Rockville on Oct. 1, according to Montgomery County police.

Police announced Monday that Maria Delmis Lemus-Nolasco of Epping Road succumbed to her injuries Wednesday.

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the collision that occurred before midnight at Veirs Mill and Aspen Hill roads, according to a police press release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2018 Toyota Corolla iM was traveling east on Veirs Mill Road when it struck from behind a motor scooter operated by 28-year-old Fredis Del Cid of Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville. Del Cid was also traveling east on Veirs Mill Road.

Lemus-Nolasco, Del Cid’s passenger, and Del Cid were taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, Roberto Carlos Castellon, 21, of Amherst Avenue in Silver Spring, and two passengers in the car were not injured in the collision.
