Police Seek Pepper-Spray Robber

Suspect took sunglasses from Friendship Heights store

A robber used pepper spray on an employee before leaving with five Chanel sunglasses from the ILORI store in Friendship Heights, Montgomery County police said Friday.

Police released store surveillance video in the hope that public can help identify the suspect.

The robbery took place Dec. 5 at about 5:36 p.m. at the store at 5530 Western Ave., police said.

Police said the suspect entered the store and immediately used pepper spray on the employee. The suspect then took the sunglasses, valued at $3,600, before walking out and heading southbound on Wisconsin Avenue, police said.

The employee told police she believed the suspect was in the store two days before. Police said she described the suspect as a man presenting as a woman, possibly a transgender female, police said. At that time, the suspect was asked to leave the store because of concerns that the she was trying to steal items, police said.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the robbery to call the Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section at 240-773-5070.
