Montgomery County police have arrested a Germantown man and charged him with first-degree murder, after he was found in his home Monday night with a woman who had been killed.

Police said Lawrence Edward Sakkestad, 34, was arrested Monday at around 8:51 p.m. after officers arrived at his home in the 20000 block of Dunstable Circle, where a woman was found dead.

Police said in a press release that Sakkestad “made statements indicating involvement in the homicide” of the woman and he “appeared” to have been involved in an assault.

Sakkestad was being held without bond. No attorney information was available in the state’s court database.

The victim was not identified as of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday because her family has not yet been notified. Her body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the cause of death.

Police did not indicate what connection Sakkestad had to the woman who was killed.

A preliminary hearing in district court is scheduled for Oct. 4.
