Montgomery County police said on Friday that an infant girl died after being in a bathtub at her home in North Bethesda on Thursday, possibly from a drowning. No foul play is suspected, a police spokeswoman said.

The girl’s parents called police around 8:24 p.m. on Thursday to report a possible drowning in the 11700 block of Old Georgetown Road, police spokeswoman Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti told Bethesda Beat on Friday.

Innocenti said Montgomery County Fire & Rescue personnel found the 9-month old girl not breathing and tried to save her life. She was taken to a hospital and later died.

Innocenti said it hasn’t been confirmed that the girl drowned — an autopsy will determine the cause of death. But she said that at some point in the evening, the girl was in a bathtub.

Innocenti wasn’t sure if the girl’s name would be released because police typically do not identify a victim when they aren’t investigating a case as a crime.
