Police investigating theft of $100K worth of jewelry from TG Jewelers in Silver Spring

Surveillance video captured male breaking into store

Montgomery County police say someone stole about $100,000 in jewelry from a store in downtown Silver Spring this month.

Police said in a press release on Friday that someone broke into TG Jewelers inside the Ellsworth Place mall in downtown Silver Spring around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13. The person stole the jewelry and fled in a vehicle.

Police said that when they got to the scene, they found that locks on the display cases had been broken and the store was in “disarray.”

Surveillance video from the store shows a close-up shot of a male in a heavy coat, then another shot of him in the hallway of the mall.

Police indicate in the video that the male is forcing his way through the drywall and into the store. The last shot shows a car pulling away, which police said is the vehicle the thief used to flee.

Police said in the press release that surveillance video shows the thief opening display cases, stealing jewelry and leaving the mall using a hallway stairwell. This is not shown in the footage police released on Friday.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 240-773-6870.
