Montgomery County police have identified a man who was found dead in the Fairland area of Silver Spring late Tuesday night. Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

Kennedy Merritt-Millet, 18, of Rockville, was found dead Tuesday night in the intersection of Greencastle Road and Turbridge Drive, police said in a press release.

Officers got a call around 11:16 p.m. for a reported shooting near the intersection, police said. When officers got there, they found Merritt-Millet lying in the intersection. His injuries indicated that he might have been shot, police said.

Police tried to save Merritt-Millet’s life until Fire & Rescue members arrived and took him to a hospital, police said. He later died of his injuries.

Police said Wednesday that they don’t think Merritt-Millet’s death is random. Officer Rick Goodale said it’s being investigated as a shooting, but the official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

Police had initially posted about Merritt-Millet’s death on Twitter earlier on Wednesday, but did not identify him or provide other details.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call them at 240-773-5070.
