Police Blotter: Four vehicle thefts, armed carjacking reported in Silver Spring area

Crimes reported to Montgomery County police between July 4 and 10

Bethesda area (including North Bethesda, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Kensington)

Thefts from vehicles

  • Money, property and parts were taken from multiple vehicles between July 5 and 8. Affected streets included Spencer Road, 16th Street, Rosemary Hills Drive, Ridgewood Avenue and Rosemary Street. Force was reported.
  • Property was taken from two vehicles between July 3 and 10. The thefts happened in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue and the 4500 block of North Chelsea Lane.
  • Money, property and parts were taken from multiple vehicles between July 1 and 9. Affected streets included Day Avenue, University Boulevard West, Decatur Avenue and East Bexhill Drive. Force was reported in three cases.
  • Money and property were taken from four vehicles in the 5500 block of Wisconsin Avenue early on July 6. Force was reported.
  • Money and property were taken from a vehicle in the 7400 block of Glenbrook Road between noon and 12:45 p.m. on July 6.

Vehicle thefts

  • A vehicle was taken in the 10500 block of Connecticut Avenue around 7:11 p.m. on July 8. It was reportedly left unlocked with a key inside. The vehicle was recovered the same day. One person was arrested.
  • A vehicle was taken in the 5000 block of Bangor Drive between 9 p.m. on July 3 and 12:15 a.m. on July 4. It was reportedly left unlocked with a key inside.
  • A vehicle was taken in the 5200 block of Nicholson Lane between 4 and 4:51 p.m. on July 9. The victim told police that someone stole the key and stole the vehicle. It was recovered two days later.

Commercial burglaries

  • Crescent Gateway at 6931 Arlington Road was broken into early on July 6. Nothing was taken.
  • Two people took money and merchandise from The Funky Piece, a smoke shop, at 7814 Old Georgetown Road early on July 10. Force was reported.

Rockville area (including Rockville, North Potomac, Darnestown, Poolesville)

Vehicle theft

  • A vehicle was taken in the 12000 block of Parklawn Drive between 9 p.m. on June 24 and 6 a.m. on June 25. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked with a key inside. It was recovered on July 1.

Silver Spring area (including Silver Spring, Fairland, Burtonsville)

Thefts from vehicles

  • Property and parts were taken from multiple vehicles between July 1 and 9. Affected streets included Dale Drive, Sligo Avenue, Silver Spring Avenue and Deerfield Avenue. Force was reported in four cases.
  • Money, property and parts were taken from multiple vehicles between July 5 and 9. Affected streets included Ocala Street, Eton Road, Wire Avenue, Noyes Drive, Black Oak Lane and Brisbane Street. Force was reported in three cases.
  • Property was taken from a vehicle in the 8400 block of 10th Avenue between 8 p.m. on July 7 and 6 a.m. on July 8.
  • Money, property and parts were taken from multiple vehicles between July 5 and 8. Affected streets included Kinsman View Circle, Adelphi Road, Lorain Avenue, Mountain Quail Road, Cottrell Terrace and Sonata Way. Force was reported in three cases.
  • Property was taken from multiple vehicles between June 24 and July 9. Affected streets included Sandy Point Court, Industrial Parkway, Sherbrooke Woods Lane, Lockwood Drive and Cordoba Street. Force was reported in four cases.
  • Property and parts were taken from three vehicles between July 6 and 10. Affected streets included Old Columbia Pike, National Drive and the area of Cedar Tree Drive and Dunwood Terrace. Force was reported in two cases.

Vehicle thefts

  • A motorcycle was taken in the 1200 block of East West Highway prior to 10 a.m. on July 4.
  • A vehicle was taken in the 8000 block of 13th Street between 10:30 p.m. on July 5 and 9 a.m. on July 6. It was reportedly left unlocked. The vehicle was recovered on July 8.
  • A vehicle was taken in the 500 block of Deerfield Avenue between 10:30 p.m. on July 8 and 7:15 a.m. on July 9. It was reportedly left unlocked.
  • A vehicle was taken in the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue early on July 9. It was reportedly left unlocked and running. The vehicle was recovered the same day.

Armed carjacking

  • Someone stole a man’s vehicle in the 8800 block of Manchester Road early on July 7. The robber displayed a weapon.

Burglaries

  • Horn Dentistry at 10313 Georgia Ave. was broken into between 11:30 a.m. on July 2 and 7:50 a.m. on July 6. Nothing was taken. Force was reported.
  • Property was taken from Kennedy Krieger Institute at 13313 Old Columbia Pike between 1:30 p.m. on July 1 and 7 a.m. on July 6. Force was reported.

Armed robberies

  • Two people took property from a man in the area of Piney Branch Road and Garland Avenue around 11:31 p.m. on July 4. One of the robbers displayed a weapon.
  • Three people took money and property from a man in the 1100 block of Osage Street around 10:06 p.m. on July 5. Two of the robbers displayed weapons. One assaulted the victim.

Aggravated assaults

  • Someone assaulted a man at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 8484 Georgia Ave. around 9:08 a.m. on July 9.
  • An aggravated assault happened in the 10800 block of Lockwood Drive early on July 7. The attacker displayed a weapon.

Gaithersburg area (including Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village)

Thefts from vehicles

  • Money and property were taken from a vehicle in the 17100 block of King James Way between 8:30 p.m. on July 9 and noon on July 10.
  • Property was taken from a vehicle in the area of Emory Grove and Woodfield roads between 11:30 p.m. on July 4 and 7:30 a.m. on July 5. Force was reported.
  • Someone took money and property from a vehicle in the 9300 block of Willow Creek Drive around 6:51 a.m. on July 7 and money from a vehicle in the 9600 block of Horizon Run Road around 12:46 p.m. the same day.
  • Money and property were taken from a vehicle in the first block of Docena Court between 8:45 and 8:55 p.m. on July 9. Force was reported.
  • Property was taken from a vehicle in the 10200 block of Ridgeline Drive between 6 p.m. on July 5 and 6 a.m. on July 6.
