Police Arrest Suspect in Reported Rockville Rape
Man also charged with two additional attempted rapes
A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the reported rape of a woman that occurred Thursday morning in a professional office building corridor along Shady Grove near Key West Avenue in Rockville—and for two additional attempted rapes in Gaithersburg on Thursday evening.
Police arrested Mahoumon Todomaey, of no confirmed address, at 1:40 p.m. Friday while he was walking in the area of Route 28 and Muddy Branch Road, according to a press statement. Police said he was identified by fingerprints left on a soda bottle Thursday morning at the scene of the alleged attack.
Police said Todomaey confessed during questioning to two additional attempted sexual assaults Thursday night that were reported to police.
The Thursday morning incident occurred as the woman was walking to work on a sidewalk on Shady Grove Road near Blackwell Road, which is near Key West Avenue. According to police, Todomaey approached the woman from behind, charged her, and knocked her down into a grassy area. He placed his hands around her neck and began to strangle her. As the woman was being sexually assaulted, police said, she fought him and cried out for help.
“Two people in an office complex parking lot heard the victim’s screams,” police said. “One witness called 911 while the other witness came to the victim’s aid. The subject fled.”
Police said the other two reported assaults occurred in an apartment building parking lot in the 9800 block of Mahogany Drive in Gaithersburg at approximately 10:07 p.m. Thursday.
“The first adult female victim was in the driver’s seat of her locked car when Todomaey repeatedly tried the door handle in an attempt to gain entry to the vehicle,” police said. “Todomaey then ran after an adult female who was disposing of her trash in the apartment dumpster and grabbed her. He then fled the area.”
During questioning Todomaey said it was his intent to have sexual intercourse with the two victims on Mahogany Drive, police said.
Police charged Todomaey with two counts of first-degree rape, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of second-degree assault for the incident reported Thursday morning. He also was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree rape and one count of second-degree assault for Thursday evening’s reported attacks.
Todomaey was transported to central processing for booking. Bond information is not yet available, police said.
