A pedestrian and a motorcyclist were killed in separate crashes Monday night in Wheaton and Derwood, respectively, about an hour apart, according to Montgomery County police.

A red 2019 Honda Passport struck a 52-year-old woman near the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Ferrara Avenue just before 9 p.m. Monday, police said in a press release Tuesday morning.

The pedestrian was found lying in the eastbound lanes of Veirs Mill Road and died at the scene from her injuries. The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene.

Around 10:15 p.m., a 2016 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a 2018 Lexus RX350 crashed near the intersection of Crabbs Branch Road and Indian Hill Drive in Derwood, police said.

The motorcycle driver, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lexus was taken to a hospital with injuries considered minor.

Police said they think the motorcycle driver was traveling north on Crabbs Branch Road and the Lexus was traveling south. The Lexus driver then tried to turn left onto Indian Hills Drive when the motorcycle struck its right passenger door.

Police did not release the identity of either crash victim on Tuesday.
