Pedestrian fatally struck in Silver Spring early Sunday morning

Police say crash was a hit-and-run

Montgomery County police said a pedestrian was fatally struck early Sunday morning in the Silver Spring area.

Wilmar Gomez Gonzalez, 24, of Hyattsville was hit and killed in the 8700 block of Carroll Avenue, police said in a press release Sunday evening.

Police said a light-colored sedan was traveling north on Carroll Avenue just before 12:49 a.m. when it hit Gonzalez. The vehicle then left the area, police said.

County and Takoma Park police responded to the scene as well as Montgomery County Fire & Rescue. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sunday’s crash is the 11th fatal pedestrian crash in Montgomery County this year. It happened in the New Hampshire Estates area of Silver Spring, near New Hampshire Estates Elementary School.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
