Pedestrian dies after she was struck in Wheaton

Crash happened Friday at intersection of Georgia Avenue, Mason Street

A pedestrian died after she was struck by a car in Wheaton Friday morning, Montgomery County police said.

Around 8:20 a.m. someone was driving a blue 2006 Toyota Camry south on Georgia Avenue that struck a 50-year-old woman crossing at the Mason Street intersection, police said in a press release.

The woman was in a marked crosswalk when she was hit.

The woman was taken to a hospital for her injuries, and later died there, police said.

Police said they will release her identity once her family is notified.

The driver of the Camry was taken to a hospital for injuries that were considered minor. Police also did not identify the driver.

The area where the crash happened is just south of the Georgia Avenue-Randolph Road interchange.
