A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday night in the Gaithersburg area, Montgomery County police said.
Jonathan Davis, 35, of Washington, D.C., was driving a 2008 Audi Q7 east on Darnestown Road. At about 6:30 p.m., he crossed the median into the westbound lanes, police wrote in a press release.
Police said the Audi then crossed back over the median into the eastbound lanes and struck a tree just before the intersection of Tschiffely Square Road.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No one else was in the SUV.
Police posted about the crash on Twitter Monday night, but initially gave few details and did not identify Davis.
Police wrote on Twitter that the vehicle crashed around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Darnestown Road and Ambiance Drive. The crash was fatal, the post stated.
Police wrote in another tweet that a man who was driving was pronounced dead at the scene, but they did not give his name. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman, told Bethesda Beat Monday that she did not know any other details about what happened.
A portion of Darnestown Road was closed for the investigation, then reopened.
Police said Tuesday that they are still investigating the crash and are asking anyone with information to call them at 240-773-6620.
