UPDATED: Driver killed in single-vehicle crash in eastern Montgomery County

Police said her car hit a tree

The driver of a car that struck a tree in the Fairland area Saturday night has died, Montgomery County police said.

Gadivel Aviles Navarrete, 30, of Lanham, was driving a 2016 Chrysler 200 east on Greencastle Road near Pitcairn Place around 5:46 p.m. on Saturday, police said in a press release on Sunday.

Police said Navarrete was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car.

Police are investigating the crash. They said on Sunday that they think excessive speed was a factor.

The crash happened in an area of eastern Montgomery County near Fairland Recreational Park.
