A Boyds man was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Interstate 270 in Rockville, according to state police.

At approximately 12:02 a.m., a vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on the side of the road. The man got out of the car. As he was trying to wave to passing vehicles for help “while running down the roadway between lanes 1 and 2,” he was struck by a passing Hyundai, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

An emergency crew arrived on the scene and pronounced him dead a short time later, police said.

The man had not been publicly identified as of Saturday afternoon, but state police said he is from Boyds.
