Montgomery County police have charged a 19-year-old man with killing a 23-year-old man in northern Montgomery County.

Rodjaun Orlando Neal-Williams of Clarksburg has been charged with killing Javon Jamal Gordon of Boyds, police wrote in a press release on Friday.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35, a union that represents Montgomery County police officers, has referred to the killing as a “drive by shooting.”

Police said in the press release that before the shooting, Neal-Williams was a passenger in the vehicle and had a “verbal dispute” with Gordon. During the fight, “Neal-Williams produced a handgun and Gordon was shot,” police said.

Police said earlier in the week that they found Gordon lying in the road in the 12900 block of Ethel Rose Way on Tuesday night with a gunshot wound on his upper body. After officers tried to save his life, he died at the scene.

Neal-Williams has been charged with one count each of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault, according to court records.

Police said that Neal-Williams was ordered held without bond on Friday, and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 14, according to court records. Attorney information was not listed Friday afternoon.

A vigil for Gordon is planned at Clarksburg High School at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the school posted on its Twitter page.
