A man has been charged with raping a woman after Montgomery County police say they searched for him in Gaithersburg’s Crown neighborhood and he ran away.
Twon Dominique Kelly, 25, is accused of raping a woman at a party last month in Gaithersburg, police said in a press release on Friday.
The victim told detectives that she and Kelly attended a party at a home in Gaithersburg the night of March 22 and morning of March 23. The woman told police that Kelly sexually assaulted her at the party.
Kelly became a suspect as police investigated, according to the press release.
Police said when they tried to serve the warrant on Thursday in the Crown neighborhood of Gaithersburg, he ran away. Gaithersburg officers later joined Montgomery County officers in the pursuit.
Kelly later turned himself in on Thursday, police said.
He is charged with one count of second-degree rape, three counts of second-degree assault and two counts of attempted second-degree rape, according to court records. He is due in court on May 14. Attorney information was not listed on Friday.
Police had posted about Kelly’s arrest earlier on Friday on Twitter, but did not provide details about the circumstances of the alleged rape.
Police said that after Kelly was arrested, detectives found a gun under a doormat in the apartment building where they think Kelly had been earlier in the day. They are investigating whether there is a connection between the gun and Kelly.
