A 19-year-old man died after he was stabbed Tuesday in downtown Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.

Police said in a press release Tuesday that they got a call around 11:30 a.m. for a stabbing in the 900 block of Ellsworth Drive.

When officers got there, they found an 18-year-old man who had injuries on his arms and hands. He told police that he and another man had been in a fight, and the other man ran toward Fenton Street.

Police then found the 19-year-old man in the 8400 block of Fenton Street with a stab wound on his chest, police said. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and later died.

Police did not identify the victim on Tuesday, saying they would do so once his family had been notified. The investigation remains active.
